Take the name of a special person.

It could be anyone: your spouse, a parent or child, best friend, significant other, even your boss! For our demonstration, we'll use

Now, pull out, in order, just the vowels:

a   e   a   u   e

And let's map them to vowels in the solfegge versions of the notes of a musical scale:

a = la
e = re
a = fa
u = ut
e = re

Now we have a sequence of five notes: la - re - fa - ut -re, or as we might term them today, A - D- F -C - D:

Then all we have to do is add some rhythmic values, extend the tune out a bit, and Voila! - we have a melody (requires Flash):

Finally, let's add a second part, echoing the first part as in a round (requires Flash):
