FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
How far in advance should I order? How long does it take you to write a piece and get it to me?
We can almost always get the piece to you within 2 weeks after you place your order. On rare occasions - if the composer's on vacation or if there are a lot of orders in the queue - it may take a bit longer.
We always contact you via e-mail as soon as your order is confirmed, and one of the things we'll want to know is if there's an especially pressing deadline. We'll give you a good-faith estimate of when we think you'll have it. We stay in touch with you (via e-mail) throughout the process. If there's a slip in the estimated delivery date (this is rare, but it can happen), we'll let you know as soon as we see it happening.
While we've made a delivery in as little as 1 hour (this was an on-air request during NPR's PERFORMANCE TODAY; there was no CD involved and we e-mailed PDFs of the parts to the Shanghai Quartet in the Washington studio), it's not generally a good idea to plan on that.
Please remember: Your piece is being handwritten - there are no "plug-in" modules for this.
Our advice: Order early, order often!
What do you mean when you say a version is "4-part" or "3-part?"
This is telling you how many voices or instruments the piece is written for. So, a 4-part version has parts for 4 different performers, a quartet; a 3-part version has parts for 3 different performers, a trio. 4-part selections are generally a bit fuller and more complex than 3-part pieces.
How do you know which name(s) to set?
When you get to the ordering page on Amazon.com, there's a note near the bottom marked IMPORTANT. The note includes a reminder and link to e-mail us the name(s). Or, you can simply use the e-mail link in the menu to the left on this page.
Are there Shipping/Handling charges?
Yes. You'll be given this information as you place your order at Amazon.com. The Shipping/Handling fee is $15.00. That may seem a bit high, but we use FedEx Second Day Air for our delivery. Our rationale is this: You've already had to wait a week or so for us to compose and produce the work; once it's ready you shouldn't have to wait any longer than is absolutely necessary.
